High School Christian Formation 9th/10th Grade
An effective Youth Ministry program involves a balance between formal opportunities to explore the meaning of both experience of growing in faith as an adolescent and the role of the Catholic Tradition, especially at the parish level.
This balance is sought througout the St. Mary/St. Therese Christian Formation program through small group sessions that deal with issues that teens struggle with and need to be challenged in at the same time in their lives. It is about making faith part of everyday life!
The Catechism of the Catholic Church outlines 4 major areas which are of importance to our Catholic Faith. They are Sacraments, Morality, Prayer, and Creed. All 4 areas will be covered during the 9th-11th grade year.
Our C.F. program is mostly on 1st and 3rd Sunday’s from 7:00-8:30pm and runs from October-April. Teens meet by grade level and the groups are comprised of 8-12 teens. These groups are lead by volunteer catechists under the direction of Brian Magliocco. They meet either at the St. Mary’s Parish Center or in the catechist’s home.
9th Grade: Prayer and Sacraments
During the first half of the year they will go over prayer, especially the Lord’s Prayer.
Then each group will discuss each of the 7 Sacraments and see how each is vitally important and also how it relates to their lives in the 21st century. They will also study the Liturgy and Liturgical year.
10th Grade: Morality
During the 10th grade year, each group will discuss two different things. The first half of the year will be devoted to discussing morality as a whole, including the Beatitudes, the virtues, and sin.
In the second half of the year, each group will break down each of the 10 Commandments and see how vitally important they are to our lives, especially in today’s world where there are no moral standards.
In addition, both grade levels will participate in:
*A retreat (if absent, they MUST make-up)
*2 Large group sessions
*2 Service projects (done with small group)
