St. Mary Parish Youth Athletics Rules and Regulations
In the event of a disagreement, all situations should be brought to the attention of the Athletic Association at any of its regularly scheduled meetings.
CYO RULES (Established by the CYO Board of Directors comprised of representatives from each parish and in compliance with the archdiocesan policies.)
- Players must belong to the parish they play for.
- If a parish has no team in a given sport, a player from the parish may play for another parish.
- All players must be in the proper age and grade bracket. Players may play up a grade bracket but never down.
- Players can only play on one team and in one league for each sport.
- Any team, practicing with adult supervision, in a sport other than the sport for that period of time will forfeit games when the seaon starts.
- If someone who does not belong to any parish wants to play in the CYO program, their names will be turned into the director fo the sport. Placement will then be determined by available openings and geographic area.
- For safety reasons, accessories such as jewelry and hair clips may not be worn during practice sessions or games.
- The head coach of record must be at least 21 years of age. An adult (21 years or older) must be present at all practices and be on the bench at all times during games.
- The following are the only individuals allowed on the bench during games: head coach, players, and not more than two assistant coaches.
St. Mary Parish Rules and Policies (established by the St. Mary Athletic Association)
- Individual participation is based on team competition and will be determined by player's effort and conduct.
- Players must respect coaches and fellow players at all times.
- Foul language is forbidden.
- Players from parish member families not enrolled in the parish school must be registered and regularly attend classes in the parish Religious Education Program (CCD). Attendance will be monitored and a period of ineligibility for both practices and games may result for failure to attend the basic responsibilities.
- There will be no practices or competition without supervision.
- Players must contact their respective coaches to be excused from practice or game sessions. Three (3) unexcused absences are cause for dismissal from the team.
- Eating, drinking, and /or gum chewing is PROHIBITED at all times. Players and their families are held responsible for willful damage to athletic facilities. Any kind of vandalism will mean dismissal from the program.
- Possession of drugs/liquor of any kind by a player will result in immediate dismissal from the program.
- Players and cheerleaders will be silent during the opponent's free throws. Unnecessary yelling, screaming, or cheering during normal play is prohibited.
- Team captains will maintain control of their teammates. Irresponsible captains will be replaced.
- All participants must be in uniform, issued or purchased with the assigned player number on it. Only player's last name may appear on the uniform shirt/jerseys. Nicknames are prohibited. Plain white socks only may be worn. Players are responsible for their uniforms, if used. Uniforms must be returned in like-new condition or a fee will be assessed for repair/replacement.
- 5th grade boys and girls team rosters are established following an evaluation of players' skills. Present at all the player evaluations are head coaches, athletic directors, and independent evaluators selected by the athletic directors. Parents/family members of players are not allowed in the gymnasium during player evaluations. Players will be dismissed following the evaluations, after which, coaches will select teams and contact players at a later date. Siblings will be placed on the same team. Car-pooing will not be accepted as a request that players be placed on the same team.
- Assistant coaches cannot be named by head coaches until after team rosters have been established.

- Players and their parents/guardians are expected to participate in Athletic Association sponsored fundraising events.
- Registration and player sport fees must be paid prior to participation.
- Compliance with above mentioned rules and policies is absolutely necessary to receive awards.
